Studio, a groundbreaking music video iOS app, is set to change the way we discover music. Developed by the talented designer Ismael Barry, Studio aims to revolutionize the music experience by providing a platform for personalized music video playlists guided by emotions.
Discovering new music is a fun and exciting endeavor, and Studio is designed to make this process just as enjoyable. The app features 30 unique icons that represent different genres and moods, each initially hidden to encourage users to tap and discover them. This direct manipulation interaction not only sparks curiosity but also elevates the feeling and experience of personal discovery of music.
The design of Studio was inspired by translating the tactile sensation of touch from the physical space into the digital realm. By immersing users' senses of sight, sound, and touch, Studio creates a new music experience like none before.
Studio was meticulously crafted using the latest technologies and design principles. The interface and keyframes were iteratively designed and wireframed using Sketch, while prototyping was done using InVision. The final high-fidelity designs and assets were exported from Sketch into Xcode, where the app was coded using Swift and Objective-C. The design process adhered to human-centered design principles, incorporating Don Norman's 7 Stages of Action to achieve usability and user experience goals.
With its responsive mobile UI/UX design for iOS, Studio demonstrates a commitment to human-centered design and adheres to Jakob Nielsen's 10 usability design heuristics and the metric-ISO system. The app follows ISO 9241-12:1998 and ISO 9241-13:1998 for ergonomic requirements for office work with visual display terminals (VDTs), as well as ISO 9241-210:2010 for human-centered design for interactive systems.
During the three-week project duration at The Flatiron School in New York City, Studio was successfully submitted to the Apple App Store as a proof of concept. The app was also exhibited during the final cohort demo presentation, garnering attention and praise from industry professionals.
Extensive research went into the development of Studio. The design team conducted a competitive audit of popular music services such as Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon Music. They also analyzed their own experiences and pain points with these services, identifying a market opportunity to improve the music discovery process. The team aimed to create an experience that would allow users to discover music that speaks to them in times they need it the most.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was determining the best approach for music discovery. Should users search for music themselves, or should an algorithm find music for them? Studio was designed to empower users to actively engage in the discovery process by allowing them to pick genres, artists, and moods. By immersing users in the interaction, Studio elevates the feeling and experience of music through personal discovery.
Studio's innovative design and user-centric approach have not gone unnoticed. The app was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2019 in the Mobile Technologies, Applications, and Software Design category. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Studio's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world of music discovery.
Studio, with its unique approach to music discovery and immersive user experience, is set to revolutionize the way we interact with music. Get ready to embark on a journey of personal discovery and explore the vast world of music with Studio.
